Who are Belfast One?

The Belfast One Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 2016 as an independent not-for-profit company for Belfast City Centre.

Belfast One is the core of the City Centre which includes a diverse range of retail, hospitality and services all concentrated within approximately One Square Mile in Belfast City Centre. This is a dynamic, innovative and vibrant part of our City, with so much on offer across so little an area.

We’re here to shout about it. Maximise it. Celebrate it. Every day in Belfast One can be a Different Day.

FAQs

What is a Business Improvement District (BID)?

A BID is a defined geographical area where businesses have voted to invest collectively in local improvements, promotion and additional services. It operates as a partnership between local businesses and the BID organization to promote the area, enhance its environment, and support local businesses.

How is a BID funded?

A BID is funded through a levy, which is a small, legislatively-mandated contribution that businesses within the BID area must pay. The funds are then reinvested into the district through various initiatives, including events, cleaning, policing, marketing, and business support.

What does a BID do?

A BID supports and collaborates with its local business community by organizing events, running workshops, promoting the area, enhancing the streetscape through placemaking, providing additional services such as cleaning and security, and collaborating local authorities on issues like policing.

How are decisions made in a BID?

Decisions within a BID are driven by input from levy-paying businesses. The BID consults regularly with its members as well as through 3rd party research to identify local priorities and areas of improvement. Projects and initiatives are implemented based on the collective feedback, ensuring that the BID addresses the needs of the local business community.

How can businesses benefit from being part of a BID?

Businesses benefit from increased footfall, improved public spaces, coordinated marketing campaigns, and access to support services like workshops and security initiatives. BIDs also give businesses a stronger collective voice when liaising with local government and agencies.
