A new-look iconic Belfast Sign made its debut at City Hall this morning with the unveiling of its third iteration and showcasing a new modern design. The installation was opened by Belfast One BID and was unveiled by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Ryan Murphy.
To celebrate the new sign Belfast One also launched the ‘Belfast Sign Snapshot’ photography competition, inviting participants to capture their most creative photos with the new sign. Amateur photographers are being encouraged to put their own spin on the sign, with prizes for the top entries.
“It’s a privilege to unveil this wonderful and popular addition to City Hall Front Lawn which is a focal point for visitors to Belfast who come from near and far,” said the Lord Mayor.
“Each year the sign continues to enhance our beautiful City Hall’s surroundings as a destination for visitors and residents to enjoy. I think it’s important for us to be proud of our city and I hope our budding photographers can find some inspiration in this landmark,” he added.
“With its striking design and vibrant colours, the sign draws inspiration from other European sign attractions and is crafted from recycled aluminum,” said Callum Craig from Belfast One. “The new sign is expected to become a popular attraction, and its updated look reflects the dynamic and evolving character of Belfast, marking the beginning of the summer season in Belfast city centre. At Belfast One we are proud to renew the tradition of a sign on the Front Lawn of City Hall,” he said.
For the competition, entrants are encouraged to submit their photos via social media using the hashtag #BelfastSign2024 and tagging Belfast One BID @belfastonebid. The competition will run until Thursday 6th June 2024, after which the top 3 entries will be selected. Winners will be announced on Friday 7th June 2024, with the winning photograph displayed at 2 Royal Avenue. Prizes for the competition are as follows:
