The ‘DeLorean Revival’, is a classic car festival arranged by local fans of the cult classic DeLorean which was first produced at a factory in Dunmurry at the start of the 1980s.
Belfast One Chairperson, Wilson Walker helps with the event by sorting for safe and secure parking for all the event attendees in his City Centre based car parking facilities.
Co-organiser of the Belfast event, David Mathers, said that 62 DeLorean vehicles have descended upon Northern Ireland from across the UK and Europe, “Over the last few months, it has grown from half a dozen cars coming for a small car show to 62 coming for a big Stormont event,” he said.
Wilson Walker, Belfast One Chairperson adds, “This is a piece of our history which needs to be celebrated. This car which was immortalised in the hugely successful Back to the Future franchise, attracts huge crowds of people, evident at the weekend when out during DeLorean Revival. The enthusiasm and excitement generated great interest in the public surrounding these classic vehicles wanting their photographs taken alongside them. Many amazing stories came from individuals who worked in or had family who worked in the factory or even worked with the DeLorean brand, each stating that every time they see one, like us they are filled with an incredible sense of civic pride.”
On Friday, a convoy of the classic car synonymous with Marty McFly and Doc Brown was seen driving past Belfast City Hall, 4 of which popped in for a photograph with Belfast One’s “BELFAST” sign. On Saturday, it continued and took over the home of the NI Assembly at Stormont, lining the mall on either side. Then on Sunday, they took to the test track at the old DeLorean factory in west Belfast which David helped to regenerate.
