The Belfast One Business Improvement District (BID) was established in 2016 as an independent not-for-profit company for Belfast City Centre.
Belfast One is the core of the City Centre which includes a diverse range of retail, hospitality and services all concentrated within approximately One Square Mile in Belfast City Centre. This is a dynamic, innovative and vibrant part of our City, with so much on offer across so little an area.
Promoting Belfast City Centre: We aim to attract more people to the City Centre by creating a lively and unique experience. We run marketing campaigns, decorate the city, and host events to draw in visitors. We also keep businesses informed about what’s happening in the City Centre, such as road closures, grants, and events that might affect them. Some popular events we’ve organised include the Spring lanterns in trees, Santas Post Office, Hit the North Street Art Festival, Summer Cinema, and Fashion Shows.
Enhancing the Visitor Experience: We work on projects to make the City Centre safer, cleaner, and more attractive. We fund two City Centre Beat officers to help with safety initiatives and have contracted a “Clean Team” that goes above and beyond regular city cleaning. They power wash the pavements, clean shop fronts and remove gum and graffiti. We also collaborate with street artists, florists, and lighting experts to help the area look its best. Our work with the “Night Czar”, Purple Flag and the “Grey to Green” project helps revitalise and support parts of the City Centre.
Supporting Local Businesses: Our goal is to reduce costs for businesses and provide practical support. We explore new and innovative solutions to help businesses succeed and ensure the area remains vibrant and appealing to visitors. We organise workshops, support the Belfast City Centre Gift Card initiative and meet 1 on 1 with businesses to hear what they have to say about our work and the area as a whole.
