Join us for July’s Sci-Fi book club where we will be discussing The Female Man by Joanna Russ.

The Female Man is generally credited with being the first feminist sci-fi novel, and is a classic example of sci-fi’s ability to discuss the now (or the 1970s) through the fantastic. The novel follows the lives of four women living in parallel worlds that differ in time and place. When they cross over to each other’s worlds, their different views on gender roles startle each other’s preexisting notions of womanhood. In the end, their encounters influence them to evaluate their lives and their ideas of what it means to be a woman.
